Postdoctoral and Clinician Scientists in Training Program in Musculoskeletal Health Research

The Collaborative Specialization in Musculoskeletal Health Research (CMHR) aims to enhance postdoctoral training across the entire research continuum, from basic to translational to clinical in a highly collaborative research environment. Our goal is to equip new researchers with the competencies necessary for accelerated career development.

The CMHR program offers a variety of opportunities aimed at increasing the success of high-quality clinical and translational researchers across a broad career continuum including academia, clinical practice, and industry.

The CMHR Postdoctoral program is tailored to the individual's training needs, but includes the opportunity to pursue a variety of educational offerings such as:

Program Requirements

CMHR postdoctoral fellows must be registered, or in the process of registration, with the School of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies at Western. Clinician Scientists in training must be registered, or in the process of registration, with an appropriately accredited training program. 

CMHR Postdoctoral fellows and Clinician Scientists in training must register as members of Western’s Bone and Joint Institute.

Postdoctoral and Clinician Scientists in Training programs are tailored to the individual's training needs, but include formalized cross-disciplinary mentoring team to enhance career development. CMHR Postdoctoral and Clinician Scientists in Training are expected to:

  • Attend and particiapte in the Bone & Joint Insitute Retreat and sponsored conference, or other opportunities hosted by the Insitute such as theme-based workshops or the MSK innovation Compeition as offered
  • Participate in outreach and education events
  • Participate in Health Leadership Training through the Ivey School of Business
  • Contribute to undergraduate / graduate teaching and/or curriculum development (including the MSK9000/9100 courses, undergraduate student summer program, or Bone and Joint Workshops)
  • Submit reporting, as requested by program administration.  
  • Affiliation with CMHR should be acknowledged on publications and research outputs as follows: "Department/School of XXX, Faculty of XXX, Collaborative Specialization in Musculoskeletal Health Research, and Bone and Joint Institute, The University of Western Ontario"
  • Funding should be acknowledged as follows: "XXX was/is supported in part by a Transdisciplinary Bone & Joint Training Award from the Collaborative Specialization in Musculoskeletal Health Research at The University of Western Ontario."
